The Backpack - Modify, yes or no ???

There are also some gear links I have provided that offer custom work.

The lightweight backpacks, I list, are excellent. This backpack fitting guide may help.

The best fitting I have had, first, the pack was fit empty, and next, the pack was loaded to maximum weight carried, by me, and small changes to the strap adjustments made.

The overall fit and the small adjustments make the fit.

If these lightweight backpacks do not meet your criteria, consider D.I.Y. (Do It Yourself) or M.Y.O.G. (Make Your Own Gear) or having gear made-to-order.

Gossamer Gear and Six Moon Designs have made their removeable hip belt available separately, and, MountainSmith has made their strapettes shoulder straps available separately.

Make a selection, add a bag you like, add accessory pockets, add perhaps a lid, or not, and you have a pack.

Modifying an existing pack may be desired, however there are so many lightweight and ultralightweight packs to choose from now, as well as custom-builders of lightweight and ultralightweight packs, there is more likely to be a pack that has a "just right" fit off-the-shelf.

I have added D.I.Y. and M.Y.O.G. links and materials sources in a new section.
